GWAR Slays at the Concord in Chicago

GWAR brought their signature brand of outrageous, theatrical chaos to Concord Music Hall in Chicago on April 2, 2026 via Riot Fest Presents, delivering a show that was as over-the-top as it was entertaining. Known for pushing boundaries, the band leaned fully into their shock-rock style, combining heavy music with elaborate costumes, props, and storyline-driven performances that kept the crowd engaged from start to finish.

Usual question for a GWAR show – So who did they chop up? Kristi Noem, Donald Trump, an Ice agent, and per usual a priest. True to their style, these moments were presented with absurd humor, fake blood effects, and exaggerated theatrics rather than anything grounded in reality, serving as part of the band’s long tradition of satirical performance art. In a word, HILARIOUS.

Beyond the spectacle, the music delivered. GWAR sounded tight and aggressive, with crushing riffs and relentless energy that had the crowd fully locked in. Fans were drenched in blood and pus, moshing, and completely immersed in the experience. I’ll always miss Oderus Orungus (Dave Brockie RIP), but the band still puts on a great show. For a couple days I couldn’t get Sick of You out of my head. Oh yeah, they did a metalized cover of Pink Pony Club the crowd seemed to enjoy and if that piques your interest they made a video for it you can find online.

Overall, it was a wild, unforgettable night—equal parts concert and performance art. GWAR once again prove why they remain one of the most unique, fun, and entertaining live acts in metal.
