“The Atlas Moth takes its darkest and most brutal turns yet.” – NOISEY
“Coma Noir sounds rich, lush, and clean while maintaining a cantankerous and irascible air.” – METAL INJECTION
“Coma Noir totally works and the combination of sounds makes for some of The Atlas Moth’s most instantly thrilling music yet.” – BROOKLYN VEGAN
“The Atlas Moth have crafted an engaging and diverse record with Coma Noir. For a band with such a one-of-a-kind sound, it’s quite the achievement to evolve while remaining true to themselves. -EXCLAIM!
“Few are the bands that could adopt this namesake and do its wondrous, singular existence justice. Yet over the past decade—from the sludge-y Neur-Isis caterpillar-in-transition cocoon shredding of A Glorified Piece of Blue-Sky (2009) to the increasingly expansive and ornate wing-spreading of An Ache for the Distance (2011) and The Old Believer (2014)—an ever-audacious Chicago quintet writing and performing under the moniker has refracted its iconoclastic, psychedelic take on a diverse array of metal subgenres through an Attacus atlas prism with strange, beguiling success.” – DECIBEL MAGAZINE
“Coma Noir is a harsher, more densely-packed soundscape than it’s psychedelia-tinged predecessor, The Old Believer, its loose, film noir-inspired narrative of a private eye tracking down a possibly illusionary evil cult has resulted in a thrilling, 48-minute journey through charged and charred environments that combine colossal riffs like a boulder rolling down the back streets of Bedlam, a voice that could sear a side of steak and fleeting moments of aptly searching melody.” – TEAM ROCK / METAL HAMMER
Coma Noir is the 4th LP from The Atlas Moth, yet marks a few firsts for the band. It’s their first release on Prosthetic Records, the first album to feature Mike Miczek (Broken Hope) on drums and it’s the first time the band worked with an outside producer. On previous releases, the band’s guitarist/vocalist, Andrew Ragin handled production duties. This time around, longtime friend, Sanford Parker (Eyehategod, Voivod) stepped in to steer the ship. An outside voice, one that the band was comfortable with, was key to channeling all the different elements the band brings to the table and keeping everything cohesive and concise. The result has fashioned The Atlas Moth’s finest album to date. The Coma Noir touring cycle is already underway with a headlining run with support coming from Royal Thunder and Mirrors of Psychic Warfare and will continue throughout North America and the rest the world with even more dates to be announced!
