Rebel Rock Report: December 7, 2018: King Diamond, Kiss, Bohemian Rhapsody

Rebel Rock Report for December 7, 2018

This week’s top story: Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody has been nominated for two — count them — TWO Golden globe awards. The first one being for best picture Drama and for the second, Rami Malek gets a Best Actor nod for his Freddie Mercury portrayal.

There has been some discontent among Queen fans, claiming that the movie is not historically accurate. Everyone that I know has loved the film, though. The movie chronicles the band’s rise to fame, and ends with their epic live aid performance. Its not much different than the Doors’ film from the early 90’s. It was an awesome movie, but not entirely historically accurate. So what? If I want a history lesson, I can read a book, or watch an actual documentary. This movie was meant as entertainment and that’s what it is — entertaining.

King Diamond

King Diamond’s long-awaited, “Songs For The Dead” live DVD will be released on January 25th. This DVD has been in the works for more than a year, and it is a must-have for any King Diamond fan. There are two complete performances of the pinnacle King Diamond album, “Abigail”, one performance from the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium, and the other performance is from the Fillmore In Philly, which is drummer Matt Thompson’s hometown. This DVD captures King Diamond doing what they do best — bringing on the metal live.

KISS

And finally, a sad note from the Kiss camp. Florence Klein, Mother of Gene Simmons, has passed away at the age of 93. Gene’s wife has confirmed the passing on Facebook with this statement: “Rest in peace, my dear Flora — the best grandma and Mother-In-Law I could ask for. You were loved, and you will be missed.”

Gene posted a photo on Instagram of himself as a child with his mom, and captioned, “The best mother in the world.”

Flora and her brother were the only members of her family to survive internment during the holocaust. She was sent to a Nazi concentration camp at age 14. Despite her tragic early life, she remained a positive woman and had great pride in her son, Gene, and all he has accomplished.

Let me say that all of us here at Rebel Radio offer our condolences to Gene and his family.
