John Griffith joined Rebel radio in 1996, where he helped in sales, recorded promos for airplay, and learned the ins and outs of radio, (or at least the way things are done at Rebel Radio). You may also know John for his nickname, “Batman”, which he acquired as a child after meeting Adam West and Burt Ward.
Growing up in a house where music was either being played on the stereo, or live in the living room. But after seeing Judas Priest live at the age of 14, John soon found himself “stuck” in the eighties metal scene. “It made for a life of loving music for me,” John reflects.
Griffith studied Automotive Technology at Lincoln Technical Institute, and when he’s not hosting the Morning Metal Wakeup show or finding sales for Rebel Radio, you may hear John cranking out Rebel Radio in his tow truck, which he drives for both Hawks Towing and Cherry’s Towing. “It took a lot of years for me to find (a towing) company where I can enjoy working at and feel appreciated.” And in the words of Scott Davidson, “If there’s anything John knows better than anybody, it’s towing. He’s great at towing.”
Griffith has a long history with working with bands (roadie, setup, singer, etc.). Such bands he’s worked with include:
- The Plague
- Mortar
- Breaker (Accept Tribute)
- Judas Rising (Judas Priest Tribute)
- Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath/Ozzy/Dio/Rainbow Tribute)
- Eric Johnson
- Chris Hambone Cameron (keyboardist for Sonia Dada and Liquid Soul)
- Eddie for Iron Maidens
Another gift that John has been granted is the ability to share his excitement about Rebel Radio to complete strangers. No doubt the rise in numbers of people who’ve installed the TuneIn App onto their phones and favorited Rebel Radio is due to his contagious passion for the world to know and love Rebel Radio as he does.
