Isolation can often result in unique outcomes. Hailing from the tiny, frosty, untamed and detached Australian state that is Tasmania, Psycroptic have become an unparalleled act in an enigmatic world wide movement commonly known as death metal. Fifteen years have passed since their formation in 1999, the band having released five critically acclaimed studio albums, all which show an organic progression along a clandestine path from which they will never stray.
On the eve of their sixth full-length, though more technical and brutally intuitive than ever, the four-piece has not been afraid to get in touch with their softer side. Long known as the ‘Tasmanian devils’, they recently became the first band in the world to adopt their own Tasmanian Devil, whom they dubbed Psycro, in an attempt to help preserve the critically endangered carnivorous marsupial. Newer elements too can be expected when the new album is finally unleashed – more vocal variation, a heightened handle on instrumental melody, and an overwhelming sense that this act has truly mastered their craft.
Psycroptic have toured all corners of the globe with names that need no introduction to those in the know – Cannibal Corpse, Suicide Silence, Decapitated, The Faceless, Obituary, Carcass, Nile, The Black Dahlia Murder, Origin, Kataklysm, Aborted, Despised Icon, Suffocation, Veil of Maya, Cryptopsy, Misery Index, Vader, Born of Osiris, Hate Eternal… you get the picture right? They also recently guest hosted the ABC music video program Rage, an honour reserved for only the most class Australian acts. Metal legend Max Cavalera has also been sporting the band’s merch in recent promotional photos, bringing things full circle from the days when they were influenced by Sepultura in their youth. It’s safe to say that Psycroptic’s place in the history of heavy metal is solidified, and that everything that happens from here on in is simply a bonus… (Source)
HallHammer – Drums
LandPhil – Bass/Vocals
Brent Legion – Guitar
Cannabis corpse was founded by Landphil and Hallhammer in the summer of 2006. The band was a heart felt tribute to smoking pot and the most brutal band in the universe CANNIBAL CORPSE! The original demo “Blunted at Birth” was recorded in the kitchen of a shit hole apt. in “Oregon Hill” a small neighborhood in Richmond VA.
Landphil and Hallhammer wrote and recorded the songs with no vocalist in mind, but since Andy “Weedgrinder” Horn lived in the same Apt. and was known to do extreme metal vocals from time to time he was recruited. After “Blunted at Birth” was complete it was put out as the first release on the fledgling record company “Forcefield Records” The album received a great reaction so Nick was recruited to play as the live guitarist.
Many many shows followed with this line up including two Euro tours, and several treks across the U.S. Landphil and Hallhammer continued to write and record albums including “Tube of the resinated” in 2008 “The Weeding E.P” in 2009 and “Beneath grow lights thou shalt rise” in 2011.
In 2012 Andy and Nick parted ways with the band and Brent “Legion” Pergason was recruited as the new live guitarist and Landphil took over vocal duties. The band continues forward with no end in sight! Stay tuned for more brutality! (Source)
Gorod (from France)
Founded in Bordeaux (France) in 1997, under the moniker Gorgasm, the band finally record its debut full-length album “Neurotripsicks” in 2004 for Deadsun Records. With this CD, they cut a deal with Willowtip Records (US), who decided to re-release “Neurotripsicks” in 2005 with two brand new bonus tracks. At this same moment, the band decided to rename themselves to Gorod to avoid confusion with the Chicago death metal outfit of the same name.
The album received a good response from the media and in 2006, the band returned with the much-praised “Leading Vision”. The band then toured over Europe and went to the mighty Maryland DeathFest (USA) and DeathFeast Open Air (D), only to impress and leave the many spectators in awe.
At the End of 2008, the band found a new drummer in Sam Santiago just before they entered the studio to record the new opus “Process Of A New Decline”. On this album, Sam pushed the band to a new level with his tight, fast and groovy drumming. With this new record, GOROD have cleverly spiced their diamond-cutting technicality with supercharged pinball machine melodies and fluttering sting ray guitar solos against a backdrop of grooves and bonkers bass playing. To promote this CD, the band toured Europe with NY death metal legends Immolation (USA) and done several shows and festivals in France.
In 2010, Gorod started the production of its forthcoming EP ” Transcendence” including acoustic versions of the band’s classics, … they played Neurotic DeathFest and then flew to USA for 2 weeks to play several shows including Midwest Fuckfest and mighty Maryland Deathfest ! Back to France the band hit mainstage at Hellfest and played an incredible show in Paris with Cynic (USA)…Gorod then embarked to a European summer trek with Cattle Decapitation (USA). Right after this tour, Arnaud (guitars) and Guillaume (vocals) left the band for personal reasons… End of 2010, the band welcome Julien “Nutz Deyres, who already toured with the band, on vocals, and, young and talented guitarist, Nicolas Alberny.
2011… “Transcendence” is out… Amazing acoustics versions of old Gorod songs, a CYNIC cover, an outstanding progressive, epic 15′ song…..a true masterpiece! To promote this new EP, GOROD done a successful 2 weeks French tour with Benighted and Kronos… then hit the road for a month across Europe with talented The Faceless (USA). Fall 2011, the band enter studio to record a new album with crazy and talented french metal producer Frederic “Elmobo” Motte… a new masterpiece is on the run!
Gorod is ready to spread its technical and radioactive songwriting all over de world… For sure…Gorod is among the most amazing “Tech Death” bands… (Source)
Formed in 2007, and after undergoing a series of sound and line-up changes, Green Bay, Wisconsin’s 4 piece death metal act “Micawber” has finally found a sound of their own and is definitely making an impact on today’s metal community. Micawber strives to break away from the slow, boring, half-time chugs that have infected the metal scene today, while still maintaining enough energy in their music to put on an intense live show. The band’s line up consists of Guitarist/vocalist Leighton Thompson, Sean Thompson on guitar,Nick Gouin playing bass, and drummer Tyler Lachowichz. With two self released CD’s behind them and a relentless tour schedule ahead of them, make sure to keep an eye out for Micawber in a city near you! (Source)
Roman Ring was formed by members of Small Town Murder as the next step in an evolutionary process. An anomaly amongst the Chicago metal scene, Roman Ring fuses together elements rarely heard from their local peers. Combining blistering speed and technicality with passages of polyrhythmic grooves along with other-worldy influences. Their music will take you on a journey to another dimension before bringing you back to this earth as an evolved being. (Source)
