Long time good friend of Rebel Radio, Vinnie Paul, has died. He was 54.
Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time. The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time.
Scott Davidson and I (Andy Gehron) remember back in the late ’90s, while Scott was giving away tickets for Ozzfest, Vinnie Paul won them. We didn’t know it was him at first, but he quickly responded, “I don’t need Ozzfest tickets! I’m Vinnie Paul and I’m playing there!” Vinnie Paul was riding in the back of a Chicago taxi when he called in, and chatted with Davidson on the phone (live on the radio) for a good 2 hours straight! News of his death is a shock to us. He will surely be missed.
No information on the causes, but we’ll keep you posted as the information flows in.
Update (Sunday, June 24, 2018): Blabbermouth has just announced that Vinnie Paul had died in his sleep at his Las Vegas, NV home, due to a massive heart attack. TMZ reported that his body has been turned over to the medical examiner to determine an official cause of death, and afterwards will be flown back to his home state of Texas to be buried between his mother and brother.
